Thursday Night Ride Description This ride has been going on for 10 years now...It is a social ride designed to bring new road cyclists into the sport in a fun and safe fashion. I've made a vow to make sure this doesn't happen in 2006 and hopefully you will help insure that it doesn't. We want to keep a fairly brisk pace for some or slow pace for others with the general goal in mind of keeping the group together. The route is always the same; a 15 mile out and back over mostly flat terrain. It is an open course and all traffic laws need to be obeyed. The pace shouldn't exceed 20 miles an hour and averaging 18 miles an hour for the group is a good goal. Single file or two abreast should be adhered to. Terminology and safety for the beginning road cyclist should also be stressed with experienced riders helping out wherever they see fit. The sooner we can integrate the new road cyclist into the fold in a safe and encouraging way the better our sport will be. Afterwards we almost always meet and socialize. This time is spent catching up on things, meeting new people and figuring out when to train, race or organize other group rides with one another. (Although we'd like this to be a road bike only ride some people may choose to ride mountain bikes or tandems. It is not recommended but hey, we don't want to discriminate.)
